Saatva Rx Mattress Review: Is It Worth Buying?

Type Hybrid with an Rx Wave-Tech foam layer, an 8-inch comfort coil unit, and high-density foam rails.
Firmness Supportive Plush (3-4/10)
Queen Price $3,639 list price
Trial 365 nights ($99 to return)
Warranty Lifetime ($149 repairs from year 3)

The 30-second verdict

No, most buyers should pass on the Saatva Rx. The catch is its $3,639 Queen list price. Saatva says its patented Lumbar Zone® quilting and gel-infused memory foam help keep the spine aligned. The brand also offers 365 nights to decide, but the trial does not lower the upfront cost. Buy it only if you want that lumbar design and can justify its price.

Pros
  • Cooler surface. AARP's cooling test found surface warming of about 11.3 degrees, below its 15.9 degree average.
  • Owner feedback. Saatva's site shows 4.8 out of 5 stars from 588 reviews, giving you owner feedback to weigh alongside tester results.
  • Edge support. Sleep Foundation rated its edge support 7.0/10, which helps you judge whether its edges suit you.
Cons
  • Firmer fit. Sleep Foundation's back-sleeper testers over 230 pounds preferred a firmer model, so the Rx may not suit their feel preference.
  • Weight limit. Saatva sets a limit of up to 300 lbs. per sleeper, so anyone above it should skip this mattress.
  • Return fee. Saatva charges a $99 return fee, so a return has a direct cost.
Feel & Fit

How firm is the Saatva Rx, and which firmness should you pick?

Saatva lists the Rx as Supportive Plush (3-4/10), so choose that label if it matches the feel you want. Outside firmness readings differ, and each tester uses its own scale.

Mattress Clarity rated it 6/10 on its firmness scale. Sleepopolis rated it 6.5 out of 10 on its mattress firmness scale and called it medium-firm; GoodBed rated it Firm (3) on its scale. If medium-firm is your target, Sleepopolis’s label is the closest guide. If you want a firm feel, GoodBed’s label is closer.

Is the Saatva Rx right for your sleep position and body weight?

For sleepers over 230 lbs., the Saatva Rx has fit readings for side, back and stomach positions, but back sleepers may prefer a firmer model.

  • Side: Sleep Foundation rated fit 6.5; its testers’ hips did not bottom out. That may matter if hip sinking is a concern.
  • Back: Sleep Foundation rated fit 6.5, but testers preferred a firmer model. If you want a firmer feel, compare firmer beds.
  • Stomach: Sleep Foundation rated fit 6.5. Use this reading as one factor when comparing mattresses.

Saatva’s weight limit is Up to 300 lbs. per sleeper, so anyone above that is over the stated cap. Sleep Foundation rated edge support 7.0/10; include that reading in your choice if you sit or sleep near the edge.

Is the Saatva Rx good for back pain?

The Saatva Rx has back-support claims from Saatva and outside testers, but those comments do not promise pain relief. Saatva says its patented Lumbar Zone® quilting and gel-infused memory foam help relieve back pain by keeping the spine aligned. Sleep Foundation says the memory-foam lumbar pad promotes alignment and can reduce lower-back strain. Tom's Guide's lead tester, who has mild scoliosis, reported lower-back-pain improvement after one month. Sleepopolis tester Caine said it helped his current lower-back pain and aligned his spine. Mattress Clarity's medical tester Dr. Habeeb says people with back pain are likely to get support and contouring. Sleep Advisor tester Loren Bullock recommends it for chronic back pain. One GoodBed owner with a lower-back-pain tag rated pressure relief 2 of 5.

How cool or hot does it sleep?

Outside results suggest the Saatva Rx sleeps closer to neutral than warm, though some tests recorded heat buildup. Saatva says the mattress has a breathable organic-cotton cover and a gel-infused memory foam lumbar crown. Its proprietary foam includes graphite and phase-change material (PCM); breathable foams and a dual-coil design help disperse body heat.

Sleepopolis recorded 68.7 degrees before and 78.3 degrees after 5 minutes. Mattress Clarity recorded 69 degrees before and 76 degrees after seven minutes, a 7-degree increase. NapLab recorded a baseline of 82.9° F, a max of 93.7° F, and an ending reading of 85.5° F. AARP found about 11.3 degrees of surface warming, below its 15.9 degree average. Sleep Foundation rated Temperature Control 8.0/10.

Will you feel your partner move?

You may feel your partner move: the readings disagree, and NCOA says bigger movements could disrupt sleep. A light sleeper with a restless partner should plan for that risk, rather than count on motion staying isolated. Bounce results vary too.

Materials and certifications

The Saatva Rx has a certification for its foams: CertiPUR-US. That means this certification applies to the foam, not automatically to the cover or the entire mattress. Saatva also lists GREENGUARD Gold certification. When comparing certification claims, check their stated scope rather than assuming one label covers every part of the bed.

Does the Saatva Rx have fiberglass?

Saatva names a blend of natural, plant-based thistle and organic New Zealand wool as the Saatva Rx fire barrier. Check the law tag for the materials listed on your mattress. It gives you a way to confirm the listed barrier materials on the bed you receive, without relying on a product description alone.

What bed base does it need?

The Saatva Rx works with a foundation, box spring, bunkie board, or platform bed frame. A platform can have a solid surface or slats. Slats must be at least 3 inches wide and spaced less than 4 inches apart. A foundation can sit on the universal metal frame.

Standard Saatva Rx sizes work with an adjustable base, Saatva says. The Rx Split King pairs only with Saatva’s Split King adjustable base, so choose that base for this size.

How long will it last, and does it need flipping or rotating?

Saatva says not to flip the Rx; rotate it head to foot at six months, then once a year. Lifespan estimates vary: Sleep Foundation expects around 8 years, Mattress Clarity says 8 to 10 years, and RTINGS gives it a 5.0 longevity score and describes it as not very durable. Treat these as expectations, not a promise, and be cautious if durability is your top priority.

Saatva says the bed starts adapting after a few days, with improvement continuing for up to a month. Give it that time before deciding whether the feel suits you.

Delivery, setup and old mattress removal

Saatva says the Rx comes with free White Glove delivery and setup, with a 9 to 21 day wait. Since each bed is built after you order, plan around the full window, not a fixed arrival day. Saatva also says old-mattress and box-spring removal is free if you request it at checkout.

What does the warranty cover, and what voids it?

Saatva says the Rx warranty covers sag deeper than 1.5 in, but a base outside its rules can limit coverage. Its base rule calls for slats less than 4 inches apart and center support on a Queen or larger. Check that your frame meets both conditions before pursuing a claim; a shallower dip does not meet the stated sag cutoff.

What do owners like and complain about?

Owners praise pain relief and comfort, while others report pain, a poor firmness fit, or weak edges. Saatva.com lists 4.8 out of 5 stars from 588 reviews. That positive score reflects the brand’s own customer reviews, not an independent test.

Verified Saatva owners on Saatva.com praise better sleep and fewer aches. Sleep Advisor says testimonials mention relief from chronic back and neck pain, though a few mention weak edges. Reddit owners report hip or lower-back pain and poor side-sleep support. Tom’s Guide says less complimentary reviews cite a mattress that feels too soft or too firm and unsupportive edges. Sleepopolis owners also say the edges are less firm than hoped. Sleepiverse reports motion transfer and compression among the concerns.
