Mattress Mill is a strong fit if you live in or can receive freight in Montana and want a locally hand-built, customizable mattress with swappable comfort layers and in-person fitting in Bozeman. It suits shoppers who value factory-direct craftsmanship, split-firmness options for couples, and flippable two-sided models.
It is a weak fit if you need a mainland-USA free-shipping bed-in-a-box, a long risk-free home trial with free returns, or transparent online checkout, since shipping runs $300-$800 outside the West, shipping to California is not available, and model exchanges carry restocking and transportation fees.

Chapter 02
Comfort and firmness: which mattress fits you
Why this matters to you: Feel names are the brand's words, not measurements. Use them to shortlist two or three beds, then let your body decide.
Back and stomach sleepers who like firm support: Nova I, Royale I, or Royale II (all rated Firm), with Royale II adding two-sided longevity. Combination and average-weight side sleepers wanting balance: Premier I or Premier II (both rated Medium). Couples with different firmness needs: Prestige, Preference, Gold, Platinum, or Blended Latex, all offering split side-to-side firmness and later comfort-layer swaps.
Hot or chemical-sensitive sleepers leaning natural: Blended Latex with its wool-quilted zippered panel and latex comfort layers. Shoppers wanting the lowest price: Nova I. Shoppers wanting maximum adjustability: Platinum (two swappable 1.5-inch latex/memory-foam layers) or Blended Latex (two swappable latex inserts).
Caliber and Nova II cannot be matched to needs because specs were not published as of Sept 2026.

Which Mattress Mill feel fits you?
Weight chart not yet researched
Weight and sleep position can change how a bed feels. We have not yet checked whether Mattress Mill publishes a fit chart by body weight, so use a trial, where one is offered, to test the bed the way you sleep at home.
Neck: on your side, your nose should line up with the middle of your chest, not tip up or down.
Shoulders: your bottom shoulder should sink in. Tingling or a numb arm means the bed is too firm for you.
Lower back: on your back, slide a flat hand under your waist. A big gap means too firm; no room at all can mean too soft.
Hips: ask someone to look from the side. Hips lower than shoulders means the bed is too soft for you.
Figure 2.1: Four checks to run in a store, lying still in the position you sleep in most. The store test in chapter 11 says how long to lie on each bed.
Chapter 03
Compare the mattresses
Why this matters to you: Models from one brand can differ in feel, height and layers. Match the feel label and height to how you sleep before you compare prices.
Mattress Mill lists 11 models. Feel names are the brand's labels.
NOVA FAMILY (innerspring, budget firm): Nova I is a 9-inch traditional innerspring with 2 inches of 1.8-lb-density foam upholstery, rated Firm with a medium surface over firm support; published mattress-only prices run $345 Twin to $465 Queen ($545-$795 as sets). Nova II is listed on the site but has no published page, so no Nova II specs, thickness, firmness, or prices were found as of Sept 2026. Best for: guest rooms and tight budgets.
PREMIER FAMILY (sewn wrapped-coil, medium): Premier I is a 9-inch single-sided pocketed-coil bed with high-density foam comfort layers plus over an inch of quilted upholstery and extra-firm perimeter coils, rated Medium, $585-$1,125 mattress-only ($785-$1,585 sets). Premier II is its 10-inch two-sided flippable sibling with high-density polyurethane comfort layers on both faces, rated Medium, $685-$1,325 mattress-only ($885-$1,785 sets).
Best for: everyday value with a true medium feel.
ROYALE FAMILY (sewn wrapped-coil, firm): Royale I is an 11-inch pocketed-coil mattress with 2 inches of 1.8-lb foam over the coils, foam-encased edge support and reduced motion transfer, rated Firm, $735-$1,425 mattress-only ($935-$1,885 sets). Royale II is the 12-inch double-sided flippable version with 2-inch support foam on both faces beneath quilted covers, rated Firm, $935-$1,675 mattress-only ($1,135-$2,135 sets).
Best for: firm-support sleepers who want edge support and extended life via flipping.
CALIBER: Listed in site navigation under wrapped-coil models, but no dedicated specs, materials, thickness, firmness, or prices were published or retrievable as of Sept 2026.
PRESTIGE (zippered wrapped-coil, entry customizable): 12-inch zippered-top hybrid with wrapped-coil support and 1.5-inch high-density polyurethane comfort layers, Extra Firm/Firm/Medium/Soft, splittable side-to-side for couples, $1,235-$2,375 mattress-only ($1,435-$2,835 sets). Best for: first step into swappable comfort.
PREFERENCE (zippered wrapped-coil, dense foam): 13-inch zippered model with dual dense-foam comfort strata with independent firmness selection over pocketed coils, Extra Firm through Soft, $1,435-$2,775 mattress-only ($1,635-$3,235 sets). Best for: sleepers wanting thicker dual-layer tuning.
GOLD (zippered wrapped-coil hybrid): 12-inch zippered hybrid pairing wrapped coils with 1.5 inches of latex or memory foam under a plush quilted panel, Firm/Medium/Soft, $1,485-$2,975 mattress-only ($1,685-$3,435 sets). Best for: latex-or-memory-foam choice on a coil base.
PLATINUM (zippered wrapped-coil flagship): 13.5-inch top zippered model with HD quilted foam cover plus two 1.5-inch latex and/or memory-foam comfort layers to mix and match, Firm/Medium/Soft, $1,885-$3,675 mattress-only ($2,085-$4,135 sets). Best for: maximum feel control.
BLENDED LATEX (latex support flagship): 11.5-inch all-latex build with a 6-inch firm blended-Talalay core plus two 1.5-inch blended-Talalay inserts (soft/medium/firm each, memory foam substitutable) under a zippered panel quilted with foam and New Zealand Joma wool, $2,085-$4,125 mattress-only ($2,285-$4,585 sets). Best for: buoyant latex contouring without coils.

Mattress prices and value
Why this matters to you: A starting price can rise with size, base and delivery. Get the full price for your size in writing before you choose.
Published mattress-only ranges (Twin through King/Cal King unless noted): Nova I $345-$465 Twin-to-Queen with sets $545-$795 (King pricing not published); Premier I $585-$1,125 ($785-$1,585 sets); Premier II $685-$1,325 ($885-$1,785 sets); Royale I $735-$1,425 ($935-$1,885 sets); Royale II $935-$1,675 ($1,135-$2,135 sets); Prestige $1,235-$2,375 ($1,435-$2,835 sets); Preference $1,435-$2,775 ($1,635-$3,235 sets); Gold $1,485-$2,975 ($1,685-$3,435 sets); Platinum $1,885-$3,675 ($2,085-$4,135 sets); Blended Latex $2,085-$4,125 ($2,285-$4,585 sets).
Value take: Nova and Premier families compete on price with mass-market innersprings while adding local build and service; zippered families charge a premium for swappable comfort layers and split firmness, which can avoid buying a whole new bed after a comfort miss; Blended Latex is priced like premium Talalay hybrids. Custom sizes, RV, low-profile, foam blocks, and pet beds are also offered with pricing via quote.
Caliber and Nova II prices: not published as of Sept 2026.

Chapter 05
How well do the mattresses hold up?
Why this matters to you: A mattress is a long buy. Lean on the written warranty and real owner reports to judge how it will last.
The brand engineers for longevity rather than disposability: two-sided flippable builds (Royale II, Premier II) designed to be turned end-over-end and rotated; zippered models with replaceable comfort inserts so a softening top layer can be refreshed instead of replacing the whole mattress; pocketed coils with reinforced perimeters; and a published seasonal care schedule (flip and/or rotate springs and falls, including flipping individual zippered inserts).
Coverage backstops it with a 10-year workmanship-and-materials warranty including a 3/4-inch body-impression threshold. Caveats: no independent long-term durability test data or third-party certifications (e.g., CertiPUR-US, GOTS, GOLS) were published as of Sept 2026, and foam densities beyond the stated 1.8-lb support foam are not fully disclosed, so expected lifespan rests on maker claims and owner feedback rather than verified testing.

Chapter 06
Sleep trials, returns, exchanges and fees
Why this matters to you: Feel is hard to judge in a store or in a week. Know your exit plan and its cost before you pay.
There is no free-trial, free-return, cash-refund sleep trial published; instead the brand offers a 120-day Comfort Guarantee based on exchanges and adjustments.
Micro-adjust firmness within 120 days: Platinum, Gold, or Latex comfort-layer swaps at a substantial customer discount, stated as $150 per split-Queen or split-King 1.5-inch layer, with the customer discount continuing for the life of the bed after 120 days; Prestige or Preference swaps stated as $75 per split-Queen or split-King 1.5-inch layer under the same 120-day/lifetime-discount structure.
Full model exchange within 120 days: trade the current mattress for a different model with the full price of the current mattress applied minus restocking fees, plus transportation charges (restocking fee amounts not published as of Sept 2026). Warranty-page content separately references two comfort-layer changes within the first year after purchase.
Confirm all fees, eligibility by model, and whether returned/exchanged beds are restocked, donated, or recycled before purchase.

Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal
Why this matters to you: Delivery terms decide your first week with the bed. Confirm the date, setup and old-bed removal before you pay.
Local delivery ($60 within a 10-mile radius of the store; most deliveries within about 100 miles of Bozeman) includes assembly of a purchased frame, installation and setup of the new set, a mattress-care demonstration, and haul-away of the old mattress and box spring under the brand's recycling program.
Orders are built to order with most ready in about 2-3 weeks from order approval (over half are built-to-stock and faster); scheduling staff call a day or two ahead with a 30-45-minute arrival window.
Statewide Montana delivery/shipment covers Helena, Butte, Missoula, Billings, and Great Falls; nationwide freight is arranged via carrier at roughly $300-$400 West, $500-$700 Midwest, $600-$800 East/South depending on size, with inside delivery and setup available for an added fee and curbside as the default; existing owners can also have a Mattress Mill bed shipped to a new location by asking.
Shipping is not available to California; added transit runs about 7-10 days.
Typical wait: 2 to 3 weeks

What do the warranties cover?
Why this matters to you: A warranty is only as good as its terms. Read the written terms and use a supported base, because the wrong frame can end coverage.
The brand states a 10-year warranty on all of its mattresses covering workmanship and materials, including the ticking fabric itself, with body impressions covered once they reach 3/4-inch depth. It excludes normal wear, softening (softening is deemed normal), firmness-preference changes, and impressions under 3/4 inch in usual sleep areas.
Remedies are handled directly with the people who built the bed, with the maker covering most material costs less any transportation charges. Claim filing steps, law-tag or foundation requirements, warranty transferability, and proration schedules were not published as of Sept 2026.
Covered when the dip is deeper than 3/4 inch, measured with nobody on the bed.
Strip the bed down to the mattress and wait a few hours so the top layers can recover.
Lay a straight edge (a broom handle or long level) across the dip, resting on the flat parts.
Measure from the edge down to the deepest point, then photograph the ruler for your claim.

Review counts checked on each site · they change daily
Customer reviews and complaints
Why this matters to you: Star ratings depend on who posts and where. Read the low-star reviews for patterns, not just the average.
The brand's own site embeds schema markup claiming a 5-star aggregate rating across 158 reviews and its testimonials page shows only positive first-person endorsements (better sleep, low-pressure knowledgeable staff, tidy showroom, careful home delivery and old-bed haul-away, durable builds, follow-up firmness exchanges), with example quotes such as "We have never slept so good" and "NEVER once with any pressure." No complaints are displayed on official pages.
Independent third-party ratings and complaint volumes (Google, Yelp, BBB) were not verified/retrievable as of Sept 2026, so treat the review picture as maker-presented and strongly positive but uncorroborated; common risk themes to confirm by phone before buying are freight cost, exchange/restocking fees, and comfort-layer swap charges.

What are the mattresses made of?
Why this matters to you: Layer names say little without numbers. Ask what is inside your exact model, layer by layer.
Support cores by family: traditional Bonnell-style innerspring (Nova I); individually fabric-wrapped pocketed coils, several with extra-firm perimeter coils or high-density foam edge encasement (Premier, Royale, zippered families); 6-inch firm blended-Talalay latex core (Blended Latex).
Comfort layers: 1.8-lb-density support/upholstery foam (Nova I, Royale, Premier II); high-density polyurethane foam, 1.5-inch layers in zippered models; blended Talalay latex inserts, two 1.5-inch layers selectable soft/medium/firm (Platinum, Gold, Blended Latex); memory foam offered as an alternate cushion choice (Gold, Platinum, Blended Latex).
Quilt/ticking: quilted foam panels, with the Blended Latex zippered top combining synthetic foam layers and breathable hypoallergenic New Zealand Joma wool. Zippered families (Platinum, Gold, Preference, Prestige) have a heavy-duty-zipper top panel that opens for access to, flipping of, and swapping the inner comfort layers, including split-firmness setups per side.
Bases sold separately: 9-inch solid box spring, 5.5-inch solid box spring, or 2-inch foundation; optional toppers add about 2 inches of surface softness. Caliber construction: not published as of Sept 2026.

Chapter 12
Mattress Mill vs. other mattress brands
Why this matters to you: A fair comparison needs the same facts for both beds. Line up price, trial and warranty for each one.
Versus national bed-in-a-box brands (e.g., Casper, Purple, Nectar, Saatva's online flagships), Mattress Mill trades free shipping, long home trials, and online scale for Montana handmade construction, in-store fitting, split-firmness customization, flippable and re-layerable builds, and direct access to the builders for service.
Versus premium latex specialists, its Blended Latex uses blended (not certified-organic natural) Talalay with a wool-quilted panel at comparable flagship prices but without published third-party certifications.
Versus local and regional independents, its differentiators are the zippered comfort-layer system, the 120-day exchange framework, and true two-sided models; its disadvantages are single-showroom geography, freight costs outside Montana, no California shipping, and thinner published specifications for Caliber and Nova II.
Competitor details reflect published prices and specs on the date shown. Mattress brands may update prices and trial terms over time.
Chapter 13
How we research and report
This page is an early draft built from our research sheet for Mattress Mill. We read the brand's own pages and public listings, and we do not test mattresses ourselves. Fields marked "Not yet researched" are still being checked.
Model specs, prices, and policy terms above reflect only what the official pages displayed in retrievable content; Caliber and Nova II details are labeled not published rather than inferred. We did no lab testing, sleep trial or durability test; firmness labels are the maker's (Firm/Medium/Soft/Extra Firm), prices are pre-tax and pre-fee, and readers should reconfirm current pricing, fees, and terms by phone/text before purchase.
