Chapter 02
Comfort and firmness: which mattress fits you
Why this matters to you: Feel names are the brand's words, not measurements. Use them to shortlist two or three beds, then let your body decide.
Side sleepers: Ultra family (Destiny, Mystery, Ultra Comfort, Luna, Mirage) and soft-topped Performance models (Pristine, Serene, softness level 6) are the closest fits, built around Duron, OmniFlow and Synergy pressure relief; Liberty (softness 8) is the plushest flagship pick.
Back sleepers: Cloud 9 and Cirrus zoned QuadCoil builds plus Destiny (support level 6, middle-ground feel) suit back sleepers wanting zoned lumbar support; Revolution and Independence add firmer high-support options. Stomach sleepers: firmer supportive picks are Stratus (softness 1), Easy Comfort (softness 1) and Independence (support 8), though dedicated stomach-sleeper guidance is not published as of Sept 2026.
Hot sleepers: Performance and Executive lines cite OmniFlow cooling and Temperature Response Control plus breathable Duron, but no independent cooling test data is published as of Sept 2026. Heavier sleepers: Executive models with support levels 7-8 and lifetime-warrantied QuadCore/Synergy/Energy cores are the sturdiest candidates, though per-size weight limits, coil counts and gauges are not published as of Sept 2026.
Pain sufferers: the brand explicitly markets Ultra and Executive builds for fibromyalgia, back, shoulder and hip pain.

Which Beds By Design feel fits you?
Weight chart not yet researched
Weight and sleep position can change how a bed feels. We have not yet checked whether Beds By Design publishes a fit chart by body weight, so use a trial, where one is offered, to test the bed the way you sleep at home.
Neck: on your side, your nose should line up with the middle of your chest, not tip up or down.
Shoulders: your bottom shoulder should sink in. Tingling or a numb arm means the bed is too firm for you.
Lower back: on your back, slide a flat hand under your waist. A big gap means too firm; no room at all can mean too soft.
Hips: ask someone to look from the side. Hips lower than shoulders means the bed is too soft for you.
Figure 2.1: Four checks to run in a store, lying still in the position you sleep in most. The store test in chapter 11 says how long to lie on each bed.
Chapter 03
Compare the mattresses
Why this matters to you: Models from one brand can differ in feel, height and layers. Match the feel label and height to how you sleep before you compare prices.
Beds By Design lists 12 models. Feel names are the brand's labels.
Easy Comfort family (Easy Comfort from $199; Perfect Comfort from $299; Supreme Comfort from $399): entry innerspring-plus-foam builds with Traditional Coil System (500-1000 alternating coils), Hyper-Support foam and Dura edge; positioned as kids, guest-room and budget adult beds claimed to beat $1,000 furniture-store equivalents.
Cloud family (Stratus from $499; Cirrus from $599; Cloud 9 from $699): step-up pocketed QuadCoil builds with zoned-center support options and Hyper-Support foam; Cirrus and Cloud 9 are pitched to college-aged adults wanting low motion transfer.
Performance family (Inspire from $1,099; Refresh from $1,199; Pristine from $1,599; Serene from $1,599): supportive-soft builds blending Perfor-Max, OmniFlow, Synergy Core and pocket coils with a 15-year warranty; Pristine and Serene target pressure relief for muscle, joint, back and arthritis pain.
Ultra family (Destiny from $2,599; Ultra Comfort from $2,599; OmniBed from $2,599; Mystery from $2,799; Prestige from $2,799; Prestige II listing exists but shows out of stock with no price; Luna from $2,999; Mirage from $4,199): the best-selling line pairing Duron LD/HD with QuadCoil or Synergy, marketed for fibromyalgia, back, shoulder and pressure pain with breathable hypo-allergenic positioning.
Executive flagship family (Revolution from $5,199; Independence from $5,499; Koolisimo from $5,799, Queen/King only, details thin; Liberty from $5,899): top-tier Energy Core, DuraMax, Duron, OmniFlow and Temperature Response Control builds for athletes and maximum pressure relief and recovery; Liberty is billed as the best bed they make.
Adjustable bases (Basic, Pro, Complete, Complete Plus; BBD100/200/300 frames) add $599-$3,498 depending on size and tier; box springs add $225-$599.

Chapter 05
How well do the mattresses hold up?
Why this matters to you: A mattress is a long buy. Lean on the written warranty and real owner reports to judge how it will last.
Brand-reported durability: component-level warranties run 10 years (Traditional Coil, Hypersift) to 20 years (Duron, OmniFlow) to LIFE (QuadCore pocketed spring, Synergy Core, Energy Core) to 30 years (DuraMax); basic mattresses carry a 10-year warranty and Performance models cite 15 years.
FAQ states typical retail beds lose support in 3-4 years while BBD builds last up to 30 years, with post-warranty adjustments available for materials cost only. Care guidance: rotate head-to-toe every other month the first year then 3-4 times yearly; do not machine-wash zippered quilts; use a proper frame (King/Queen/Full need 5+ legs, rigid center support, 5+ slats) plus a protector.
Independent durability testing (rollator, sag, fatigue) and expected-lifespan data: not published as of Sept 2026.

Chapter 06
Sleep trials, returns, exchanges and fees
Why this matters to you: Feel is hard to judge in a store or in a week. Know your exit plan and its cost before you pay.
Sleep-trial length: no night-count trial is published on the FAQ, shipping, warranty or product pages as of Sept 2026. Returns: the warranty page states all purchases are non-refundable.
Exchanges: instead of returns, the Comfort Commitment offers lifetime feel adjustments (softer, firmer, more supportive) with all labor waived; bring the mattress to the store, allow 30 days between adjustments for break-in, and pay transportation plus materials cost only.
Trade-in program (running since 2015): upgrade same-size and pay the price difference, or upgrade across sizes with the old bed credited at 50% of original price toward the new bed. Restocking, return-shipping and comfort-adjustment material fees: not published as of Sept 2026; confirm all terms in writing before buying.

Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal
Why this matters to you: Delivery terms decide your first week with the bed. Confirm the date, setup and old-bed removal before you pay.
Delivery: showroom pickup typically within a couple of hours for stocked standard sizes; local home delivery in Fargo, Sioux Falls and Denver areas for a nominal charge including in-home setup, with old mattress and box-spring removal at no additional charge; nationwide shipping offered with deliveries cited from Arizona to Maine and typical turnaround of 1-3 days.
Exact delivery fees, scheduling windows, tracking and coverage maps: not published as of Sept 2026; contact the nearest store for quotes. Setup: delivery includes setup of the BBD mattress; adjustable-base setup, stair-carry rules and foundation requirements beyond warranty support specs are not published as of Sept 2026. Old-mattress removal: free haul-away stated for local delivery; out-of-area disposal terms are not published as of Sept 2026.
Typical wait: 1 to 3 days

What do the warranties cover?
Why this matters to you: A warranty is only as good as its terms. Read the written terms and use a supported base, because the wrong frame can end coverage.
Component warranty: each layer carries its own term - Traditional Coil 10 years, Hypersift 10 years, QuadCore pocketed spring LIFE, Duron soft/firm 20 years, Synergy Core LIFE, OmniFlow 20 years, Energy Core LIFE, DuraMax 30 years. Covers manufacturing defects under normal wear: body indentations over 1 inch, loose/broken/protruding coils, edges sagging 1 inch+, plus box-spring wire, frame-split and beam defects.
Requires proper foundation and frame support; the brand recommends its protector and box springs for full coverage. Excludes: wrong foundation or frame, abuse, moving damage, excess weight, stains, burns, height/sheet fit, transport costs and comfort preference. All purchases non-refundable; warranty service replaces the failed component rather than the whole bed.
Claim mechanics, registration steps and labor-fee schedules: not published as of Sept 2026.
Covered when the dip is deeper than 1 inch, measured with nobody on the bed.
Strip the bed down to the mattress and wait a few hours so the top layers can recover.
Lay a straight edge (a broom handle or long level) across the dip, resting on the flat parts.
Measure from the edge down to the deepest point, then photograph the ruler for your claim.

Customer reviews and complaints
Why this matters to you: Star ratings depend on who posts and where. Read the low-star reviews for patterns, not just the average.
On-site product reviews are nearly absent: most model pages show zero reviews; Destiny shows one 5-star review (Melissa, SD, March 2018: favorite bed ever purchased) and Revolution shows one 5-star review (Ryan H, MN, March 2018: best mattress ever, better than Leesa and Casper, helped his back and his wife sleeps well). The site widget shows Google 4.5 stars based on 5 reviews.
Listed awards: Best Furniture 2013 and Best Mattress Store 2012/13, 2014/15, 2016/17. The brand cites pro athletes (Denver Broncos Connor McGovern, Penguins Stanley Cup champ Matt Cullen) and country star Steve Azar as customers. Third-party aggregator scores (BBB, Yelp, Google full review text) and model-level complaint patterns: not published as of Sept 2026; Koolisimo and Refresh pages say More info coming soon.

What are the mattresses made of?
Why this matters to you: Layer names say little without numbers. Ask what is inside your exact model, layer by layer.
Core systems named on official pages: Traditional Coil System offset innerspring (500-1000 coils); exclusive QuadCoil/QuadCore pocketed coil with zoned-center option; Hyper-Support and Hypersift comfort foams; high/low-density Duron foam; Synergy Core; DuraMax/Energy Core self-conforming materials; OmniFlow capsule-based pressure-relief layer; TRC Temperature Response Control; Perfor-Max support layer; Dura edge with non-slip decking; zippered quilts for in-house adjustment access.
Softness/support levels are published per model (e.g. Cirrus 3/3, Liberty 8/7, Independence 4/8). All materials are stated as US-sourced with no harmful chemicals; CertiPUR-US, GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEX and Greenguard certifications, foam densities/ILDs, latex content, coil counts/gauges and fire-barrier specifics: not published as of Sept 2026.

Where can you try and buy the mattresses?
Why this matters to you: Where you buy sets the price, the trial and who handles problems. Check the seller's terms, not just the brand's.
Try in store: Sioux Falls SD at 2720 S. Louise Ave. 57106 (605-371-2337); Fargo ND at 4505 13th Ave.

Beds By Design vs. other mattress brands
Why this matters to you: A fair comparison needs the same facts for both beds. Line up price, trial and warranty for each one.
Versus Sealy Posturepedic (per the brand): BBD points shoppers to Cloud or Performance models (Stratus $499, Cirrus $599, Cloud 9 $699; Inspire, Refresh, Serene, Pristine) claiming zoned QuadCoil support and OmniFlow cooling at considerable savings over Posturepedic. Versus Sealy Black: BBD counters with the Executive series (Revolution, Independence) for support, pressure relief and temperature regulation.
Versus Tempur-Pedic: BBD points to Liberty or OmniBed. Versus Simmons, Stearns and Foster and Sleep Number: BBD suggests Cloud 9, Ultra Comfort or Revolution first. General positioning: US-made foams with no harmful chemicals versus cheap polyurethane claimed for name brands, factory-direct savings up to 50%, local-business support and lifetime adjustability the nationals will not do.
Independent head-to-head testing to verify these claims: not published as of Sept 2026.
Competitor details reflect published prices and specs on the date shown. Mattress brands may update prices and trial terms over time.
