The 30-Second Verdict: Quick Summary

Personal Comfort is a Kansas smart air-bed maker. It launched in 2012 and has manufacturing roots to 1988. It sells three adjustable-firmness lines. They are the A8 Classic (13 inches, from about $1,539 Twin XL on sale), The Rego (11 inches, from about $1,900) and The Rejuvenate (13 inches, from about $2,700). You get a 120-night trial, a 25-year limited warranty and free shipping. It's best for couples who want independent firmness on each side. Deep rotating discounts make list prices unreliable, so judge street price only.

Chapter 01

Is Personal Comfort the best mattress for you?

Good fit: couples with different firmness needs (True Dual Adjustability on every bed, 45 settings per side, 5-50 scale); Sleep Number shoppers wanting a lower-priced air-bed alternative; sleepers whose needs change over time (adjustable support); tech-comfortable buyers fine with remote/app control.

Poor fit: shoppers wanting foam, latex, innerspring or hybrid feel (this line is air-support only); strict-organic buyers (no GOTS/GOLS published); shoppers needing in-store try-before-buy (online/phone only); buyers wanting auto-adjusting or sleep-tracking smart features (beds do not self-adjust).

Chapter 02

Comfort and firmness: which mattress fits you

Why this matters to you: Feel names are the brand's words, not measurements. Use them to shortlist two or three beds, then let your body decide.

Guidance is brand-level, not clinical: because each side adjusts across 45 settings (5 = soft through 50 = firm), the brand positions the beds for all sleep positions - softer settings for side sleepers, mid-to-firm settings for back and stomach sleepers - with couples each dialing their own side.

Heavier sleepers can firm up their chamber; the brand cites owner reports of less back and joint discomfort after finding an ideal setting (brand-reported, not a medical claim). Flex-Head and Split builds suit partners wanting independent head/foot elevation with a power base.

No per-model sleeper test data or weight-range tables published as of Sept 2026; uncertain buyers should use the 120-night trial (45-night minimum keep) to settle on a setting.

Which Personal Comfort feel fits you?

Weight chart not yet researched

Weight and sleep position can change how a bed feels. We have not yet checked whether Personal Comfort publishes a fit chart by body weight, so use a trial, where one is offered, to test the bed the way you sleep at home.

Four alignment checkpoints against a neutral posture line Neck Shoulders Lower back Hips level with spine sink in, no pinch no gap below no sag Straight spine line
  1. Neck: on your side, your nose should line up with the middle of your chest, not tip up or down.
  2. Shoulders: your bottom shoulder should sink in. Tingling or a numb arm means the bed is too firm for you.
  3. Lower back: on your back, slide a flat hand under your waist. A big gap means too firm; no room at all can mean too soft.
  4. Hips: ask someone to look from the side. Hips lower than shoulders means the bed is too soft for you.
Figure 2.1: Four checks to run in a store, lying still in the position you sleep in most. The store test in chapter 11 says how long to lie on each bed.

Compare the mattresses

Why this matters to you: Models from one brand can differ in feel, height and layers. Match the feel label and height to how you sleep before you compare prices.

Personal Comfort lists 3 models. Feel names are the brand's labels.

A8 Smart Bed (Classic Series, brand best-seller per site): 13 in. tall with 7 in. comfort layers - wavy ultra-stretch top panel, 3 in. ThermaPhase gel-infused visco layer, 2 in. Air Flow comfort layer, 2 in. comfort support layer over 6 in. air chambers with Lock-Tight rails; Bluetooth air control, 1 wireless remote plus free app, 45 settings per side.

Listed Twin XL $1,539.20 with 60% OFF Classic Series flag; brand comparison chart (dated 1/15/2025) quotes Queen $1,719.20 / King Flex-Head $1,900 / Split King $2,099 vs Sleep Number i8. Sizes Twin XL through Split Cal King. THE REGO (entry smart bed, 11 in. tall, 5 in. comfort layers): 2 in. gel-infused comfort layers, traditional rubber multi-directional-baffle air chamber, Lock-Tight rails, 1 remote plus app.

Queen listed $2,100 with $500-$600 OFF banner; line starting at $1,900.00 (was $2,500.00) per technology page. THE REJUVENATE (flagship for couples, 13 in. tall, 7 in. comfort layers): 3 in. CopperGel comfort layers plus cool-touch phase-change top cover, upgraded Ultra-Flex air chamber for power-base articulation, 2 remotes plus app.

Queen listed $3,500 with $1,200 OFF banner; line starting at $2,700.00 (was $3,900.00). All three offer Standard, Flex-Head (32 in. head slit for independent elevation with a power base) and Split configurations; power bases sold separately.

How well do the mattresses hold up?

Why this matters to you: A mattress is a long buy. Lean on the written warranty and real owner reports to judge how it will last.

Durability evidence is brand-reported only: 25-year limited warranty on all three lines - Rego 3 years full coverage plus 22 years prorated; Rejuvenate 5 years full plus 20 years prorated; A8 page shows 25-Year Warranty Included and Our Story cites replacement coverage up to 5 full years. Brand touts 50+ years manufacturing excellence and owner anecdotes (e.g., 10-year-old bed still like new - brand-published testimonial).

Self-service repair positioning: replacement components available without buying a new bed. No independent durability testing (no RTINGS-style teardown found) and no aggregated owner-longevity data as of Sept 2026; air-chamber, pump and remote longevity beyond warranty terms is unverified.

Sleep trials, returns, exchanges and fees

Why this matters to you: Feel is hard to judge in a store or in a week. Know your exit plan and its cost before you pay.

120-night risk-free trial on Personal Comfort mattresses bought at personalcomfortbed.com only (final-sale, demo, floor-model, friends-and-family, bedding, accessories, power bases, frames and furniture excluded). Trial starts on delivery date; you must keep the bed 45 nights before a return is approved; signed RMA required within days 46-120 via Customer Relations 1-888-694-4088 ext.

6 (M-F 11 AM-4 PM ET), fax-back to 1-816-817-1253; return void if not picked up within 7 days of scheduled pickup. Returns before day 45 incur a mandatory 25% restocking fee; cancelled/refused post-ship orders are refunded minus freight both ways plus 25% restocking.

Mattress and components must come back in like-new condition (no hair, stains, odors, remote/pump scratches) or retail replacement cost is deducted; defective-component replacements reset the 120-night clock. Refunds to original payment method take an estimated 30-45 days from RMA approval. One trial per mattress per customer per household; no trial period extension beyond replacement resets.

Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal

Why this matters to you: Delivery terms decide your first week with the bed. Confirm the date, setup and old-bed removal before you pay.

Made to order; ships in 2-3 weeks per product pages; most mattresses arrive in 7-10 business days per Our Story. All mattress orders include free shipping; free threshold delivery is standard; some assembly required (no-tools setup claimed). In-Home Setup and Delivery available on request for adjustable bed base products only (adds 3-5 business days); bases ship curbside freight in 3-4 weeks.

$200 handling fee added for Hawaii and Alaska (plus possible size/weight surcharges; bases to AK/HI quoted separately). Old-mattress removal: Not published as of Sept 2026. Power bases sold separately and work with Flex-Head/Split builds; beds also fit existing frames and platforms.

Typical wait: 7 to 10 business days

What do the warranties cover?

Why this matters to you: A warranty is only as good as its terms. Read the written terms and use a supported base, because the wrong frame can end coverage.

25-year limited warranty to the original purchaser from purchase date (brand's flagship claim; A8 page: 25-Year Warranty Included). Full-coverage windows differ by line: Rego 3 years full plus 22 years prorated; Rejuvenate 5 years full plus 20 years prorated; A8 full-coverage window unstated on pages checked. Covers defects in materials/workmanship with repair-or-replace at brand option.

Rego vs Rejuvenate product pages both direct readers to Terms and Conditions for details. Exclusions, sag-depth thresholds, prorating math, transport responsibility and claim turnaround: confirm the details when filing a claim. Retain receipt and law label; comfort preference is not a defect.

  1. Strip the bed down to the mattress and wait a few hours so the top layers can recover.
  2. Lay a straight edge (a broom handle or long level) across the dip, resting on the flat parts.

Review counts checked on each site · they change daily

Customer reviews and complaints

Why this matters to you: Star ratings depend on who posts and where. Read the low-star reviews for patterns, not just the average.

Brand site shows 4.8-star product ratings and claims over 2,000 five-star verified reviews from 2,800+ customers (reviews page, brand-reported; per-model review counts are not published). Published testimonials praise joint comfort, couple independence, and upgradeable components. Third-party aggregates (BBB, Trustpilot, Google) and independent editorial reviews (including Sleep Foundation): Not published as of Sept 2026.

Complaint themes to check: promo-price confusion (transposed sale/regular labels, inflated SRPs), 25% restocking/return-shipping fees on early or refused returns, like-new return condition enforcement, and power-base/accessory non-returnability.

What are the mattresses made of?

Why this matters to you: Layer names say little without numbers. Ask what is inside your exact model, layer by layer.

Smart air-bed construction throughout: user-controlled Bluetooth air chambers (no auto-adjust, no sleep tracking - brand states beds will not turn on or adjust on their own; support comes from air physics, not algorithms). A8: ultra-stretch wavy top, gel-infused visco and Air Flow comfort foams, stretchable Airlayer, 6 in. air chambers, Lock-Tight rails, reinforced 5 ft.

4 in. air hose, patented air control unit, wireless remote plus free Personal Comfort app. Rego: traditional rubber multi-baffle chamber, gel-infused layers, 1 remote. Rejuvenate: Ultra-Flex chamber, CopperGel Energex-type layers, cool-touch phase-change cover, 2 remotes.

CertiPUR-US comfort foams claimed brand-wide; fiberglass-free FR rayon fire barrier claimed (no fiberglass, no chemical retardants, no antimony per compare page). Cert IDs and PDFs not published; foam densities, ILDs, latex content (none claimed) and chamber-wall specs not published. No GOTS/GOLS/OEKO-TEX line.

Personal Comfort vs. other mattress brands

Why this matters to you: A fair comparison needs the same facts for both beds. Line up price, trial and warranty for each one.

Vs Sleep Number (the brand's named rival, full compare page): Personal Comfort claims 45 firmness settings vs 20, 25-year vs 15-year warranty, 120 vs 100 nights, remote included vs sold separately, free returns vs return fees, unzipped independent chambers vs zipped-together chambers, and roughly half the price - wins on paper; trails on store footprint, sleep-tracking/auto-adjust tech and third-party test visibility.

Vs Saatva Solaire (air-adjustable luxury): Solaire offers white-glove delivery and stronger editorial coverage; Personal Comfort counters on price and dual remotes on Rejuvenate. Vs ReST Bed (sensor smart air): ReST offers automatic adjustment; Personal Comfort explicitly offers none - manual control only.

Vs Tempur-Pedic non-air flagships: Tempur wins on pressure-relief reputation and trial logistics; Personal Comfort wins on per-side adjustability and price.

Quick Answers

Quick Answers Before You Buy

Safety and materials
Buying and policies

Is Personal Comfort a true smart bed?

It is app- and remote-controlled air adjustability (Bluetooth, 45 settings per side) - not auto-adjusting and with no sleep tracking; the brand states beds never adjust on their own.

What is the trial and warranty?

120-night trial (45-night minimum keep, signed RMA days 46-120) and 25-year limited warranty (Rego 3-yr full / Rejuvenate 5-yr full, remainder prorated).

How is it different from Sleep Number?

Brand claims more settings (45 vs 20), longer trial and warranty, included remotes and lower prices, with unzipped independent chambers.

Do I need a power base?

No - firmness works standalone; Flex-Head/Split elevation features need a Personal Comfort or compatible power base (sold separately).

Are returns really free?

Mature-trial mattress returns are refunded, but early (pre-day-45), refused or cancelled orders carry a 25% restocking fee plus freight, and bases/accessories are non-returnable.

Is it fiberglass-free?

Brand claims an FR rayon barrier with no fiberglass or chemical retardants (brand-reported; no cert PDFs published).

Prices and promos checked Sept 2026. Recheck before buying.
