The 30-second verdict
Yes, most buyers who want a contouring memory-foam feel should consider the TEMPUR-ProAdapt®. The catch is heat: Sleep Doctor gave its temperature control 2/10, so hot sleepers may prefer another bed. For a tighter budget, Brooklyn Bedding's CopperFlex 12-inch all-foam memory foam mattress may fit better: its Queen price is $865, versus the TEMPUR-ProAdapt® Queen list price of $3,499. Buy it only if you can accept that heat trade-off.

Pros
Body contouring. Mattress Clarity's owner-review summary names contouring around the hips, shoulders, and back as a common praise theme.
Removable cover. Tempur-Pedic says you can remove the top cover and machine-wash it.
Hybrid coil system. Tempur-Pedic says the Medium Hybrid combines TEMPUR-Material with 1000+ individually wrapped coils.
Cons
Edge support. Support near the sides falls short of average on the all-foam versions, Sleep Foundation found.
Break-in period. Tempur-Pedic says the mattress has a settling-in period of a few weeks while adapting to your weight and body heat.
Back sleeper fit. Sleep Foundation says some back sleepers over 230 pounds may still need a firmer feel than the Firm option provides.
How firm is the TEMPUR-ProAdapt, and which firmness should you pick?
Pick by the feel you want: Tempur-Pedic lists Soft, Medium, Medium Hybrid, and Firm as options, not a softness ranking.
Sleep Foundation rates Soft (3), Medium (5), Firm (7), and Medium Hybrid (5) on its firmness scale, tying the two middle choices. GoodBed’s rating scale calls Soft Very Soft (7), Medium Medium-Firm (4), Medium Hybrid Medium-Soft (6), and Firm Ultra Firm (1).
Choose Soft for a very soft feel, or Firm for an ultra-firm feel, based on GoodBed. For the middle, pick Medium Hybrid for its softer GoodBed label; Sleep Foundation scores it the same as Medium.

Is the TEMPUR-ProAdapt right for your sleep position and body weight?
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt may fit stomach sleepers at any weight, but side and back sleepers over 230 pounds face different trade-offs.
Stomach: Sleep Foundation preferred firm (7) for stomach sleepers at every weight. Above 130 pounds, it was the only effective option.
Side: For sleepers over 230 pounds, Sleep Foundation found firm (7) most effective because it could resist excess sinkage.
Back: Even on the firmest model, some back sleepers over 230 pounds may find it too plush, according to Sleep Foundation.
Combination: If you switch positions, use the finding for the position you spend most time in, since results differ by position.
Tempur-Pedic says the mattress has no weight limit, but that does not guarantee the feel will suit your position. Sleep Foundation rated edge support 6.5/10, worth considering if you sit or sleep near the edge.

Neck: lying on your side, ask if your pillow and the bed keep your head in line with your spine.
Shoulders: ask if the shoulder under you settles in, or if you feel a pinch after a few minutes.
Back: lying face up, slide a hand under your waist. A big gap or no room at all is a sign of a poor match.
Hips: ask if your hips dip lower than your shoulders, like lying in a shallow bowl.
Four checks: lie still for a few minutes in the position you sleep in most, then notice how each spot feels. These are comfort checks, not a medical test.Sources (2)
The outside readings favor a firmer feel for back support. Sleep Foundation says back sleepers found the softer versions lacked firmness and did not keep their spine straight. Sleep Doctor says Soft and Medium lacked support for people over 230 lb, so those sleepers should avoid those feels. Tempur-Pedic says only LuxeAdapt has its all-new 5-zone support layer, so ProAdapt does not have that feature. For stomach sleepers, Sleep Sage says hip sinkage may bend the lower back too far, leading to morning pain. These findings are not a promise of pain relief.

Ongoing back pain? Ask a doctor or physical therapist what support your back needs before you buy.
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt’s outside results lean warm rather than neutral, so hot sleepers should be cautious. Tempur-Pedic says its SmartClimate® Dual Cover System has a cool-to-touch cover and yarn that moves heat away from the body. The cover zips off and is machine-washable.
NapLab measured a maximum surface temperature of 91.5° F. Sleep Foundation’s Temperature Control score was 5.5 / 10. Sleep Doctor’s Temperature Control score was 2/10. Yahoo Health’s temperature regulation score was 3 on a 1-5 scale in a winter test of the Medium firmness. These readings do not point to reliably neutral sleep.

You cannot tell from NapLab’s readings alone how much of a restless partner’s movement you will feel. NapLab reports a motion-transfer acceleration range of 6.13 m/s² and total bounce of 4.56 inches. Those figures do not say whether a light sleeper will wake. Treat them as measurements, not a promise that movement will carry across the bed or go unnoticed. If movement is a deal-breaker, these readings alone cannot settle the choice.

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt comes in non-hybrid and Medium Hybrid builds, so choose based on whether you want coils. The non-hybrid stack, top to bottom, is TEMPUR-Material over a foam base layer. Medium Hybrid combines TEMPUR-Material with 1000+ individually wrapped coils, making it the coil option.
Its weight range is 86-119 lbs, a practical number for planning delivery access. Keep the route clear and confirm access before delivery. If your order includes Tempur-Pedic White Glove delivery, in-room setup is included, so you do not need to arrange carrying help.
Tempur-Pedic says the TEMPUR-ProAdapt has a SmartClimate® Dual Cover System with a cool-to-the-touch top cover that is removable and machine washable. You can remove and wash that cover separately. CertiPUR-US® certification covers the mattress's performance foam. It applies to that foam, not the full mattress, so read the certification as foam-specific.

This mattress works with a platform bed, Tempur-Pedic flat foundation, or Tempur-Pedic power base. Tempur-Pedic recommends its flat foundation. For adjustable positioning, choose its power base. A box spring or floor placement is not compatible, so pick one of the supported bases instead.
How long will it last, and does it need flipping or rotating?
How durable is it, and does it need flipping or rotating?
Sleep Foundation rates the TEMPUR-ProAdapt at 6.5 / 10 for durability. Mattress Nerd says its foams retain their shape well and do not sag. Tempur-Pedic says the mattress needs a few weeks to adjust to your body weight and temperature. Rotation is optional; some owners rotate it periodically for more even wear. Do not flip it.

The brand says the warranty covers a visible indentation deeper than 0.75 in, measured with no weight on the mattress. To protect coverage, use a structurally sound base; platform slats must be at least 3 inches wide and no more than 4 inches apart. A box spring, plywood, futon frame, or floor can void coverage, and sag from a weak base is not covered.
For beds bought on or after October 1, 2022, approved repairs and replacements cost nothing. For a claim, the buyer pays transportation, capped at the brand’s standard freight rate.

Owners praise contouring and comfort, but some report firmness and heat concerns. Tempur-Pedic’s own site lists 4.305932703659977 out of 5 stars from 6,776 reviews.
Mattress Clarity’s owner-review summary names contouring around the hips, shoulders, and back as common praise. One owner there reported better sleep and less morning back and shoulder pain. Owners on Tempur-Pedic’s site call it firm and very comfortable and report good, quality sleep. One Mattress Clarity owner said the delivered mattress felt much firmer than the store model; another complained of waking hot from memory foam. If you prefer a softer feel or sleep hot, weigh those complaints before buying.
