No for most buyers: if you share it, a partner's movement may carry across the bed. If you want foam that hugs your body, Nectar Classic Memory Foam fits better. Its Queen price is $699. The Bear Natural's Queen list price is $2,427. Bear still suits you if you want to move easily between positions. Buy it only if you can accept that trade-off.

Pros
  • Organic cotton cover. Bear says its organic cotton yarn feels soft and breathable.
  • Zoned coil support. Bear says coils in the center target support for your lower back.
  • No fiberglass. Bear says the Bear Natural is made without fiberglass.
Cons
  • Warm surface. The surface may feel warm if you tend to overheat at night.
  • Heavy to rotate. At 110 lbs., Bear Natural may take extra effort to rotate from head to foot.
  • Trial wait. Bear asks you to sleep on it for at least 30 nights before deciding if it suits you.
Feel & Fit

How firm is the Bear Natural, and which firmness should you pick?

Choose the Bear Natural’s medium-firm feel; the outside readings support that choice. Bear says it designed the mattress with this feel. Sleep Foundation rates it Medium Firm (6); most of its testers who sleep on their sides enjoyed the feel and moderate contouring, giving side sleepers the clearest fit signal. Mattress Clarity scored it 6.5/10, calling it a true medium-firm option. GoodBed rates it Medium-Firm (4) on its scale, where 1 is firmest and 9 is softest. These ratings use different scales, so do not treat their numbers as a shared ranking.

Feel & Fit

Is the Bear Natural right for your sleep position and body weight?

For sleepers over 230 lb, the Bear Natural is a better fit for side or back sleep than stomach sleep. Sleep Foundation rated side fit 8.5, back fit 8.0 and stomach fit 7.0. Mattress Clarity says side sleepers in this group should get enough pressure relief. Much heavier people may need another model. On your back, support is mostly fine, but people with more weight at the hips may want a firmer bed. Stomach sleepers in this group should pick a firmer, more supportive mattress. Sleep Foundation rated edge support 7.0/10. The edge feels a bit less steady if you sit or sleep there.

Is the Bear Natural good for back pain?

The Bear Natural may suit some people with back pain, but the readings point both ways. Bear says its coils target support in the lower back. The zoned support can help people with back pain. Sleep Foundation lists people with back pain among the groups it suits best. At The Good Trade, reviewer Emily Wagner said she woke after the first night with no sore lower back. NapLab's reviewer felt slight to moderate pressure, mostly in the lower back, while lying on their back. Treat it as a possible fit, not a promise of pain relief.

How cool or hot does it sleep?

Outside tests show some warmth, not a neutral sleep. NapLab measured a top surface heat of 92.5°F and called it warmer than average. Sleep Foundation rated temperature control 7.0/10. Sleepline gave cooling a 7.5. Bear says its cotton cover breathes, its comfort layer adds airflow, and its zoned coils let air move. Those parts help airflow, but NapLab's warm result matters if you run hot.

Will you feel your partner move?

You may feel a restless partner move on the Bear Natural. Sleep Foundation scores Motion Isolation 5.0/10 and Ease of Movement 7.0/10. The coil core adds bounce, and the bed feels bouncy. Mattress Clarity gives Motion Transfer 3.5 and calls the latex hybrid feel very bouncy. GoodBed rates Motion Isolation Pretty Good (6) and Bounce High (7). For a light sleeper with a restless partner, do not expect a still feel.

Build & Safety

How is it built?

The Bear Natural is built in six layers, from organic cotton quilting on top to a DuraDense base, and weighs 110 lbs. Plan for that weight when you set it up or move it.

  • Organic cotton quilting forms the top layer.
  • The Natural Latex Comfort Layer uses latex Bear calls natural, sustainably sourced and non-toxic.
  • The Responsive Comfort Layer sits below the latex.
  • Next are individually encased zoned coils; Bear says they spread support well.
  • Reinforced edge coils use what Bear calls extra strong edge coils.
  • At the bottom, the Shock Absorbing Base Layer uses DuraDense; Bear says it supports the bed and helps it last.

Bear says it is made in America from foreign and US parts.

Materials and certifications

The cover is organic cotton, and the certifications apply to different parts of the bed. CertiPUR-US® applies to Bear Natural's layers. GREENGUARD Gold applies to the mattress. GOTS applies to the organic cotton yarn. A GOTS mark on the yarn does not mean every material has that certification. Compare each mark with the part you care about.

Does the Bear Natural have fiberglass?

No, Bear says the Bear Natural is made without fiberglass. Bear says its fire barrier is a fabric blend of non-woven hydrated silica, rayon, polyester, and cotton. Check the law tag on your mattress; it lists the materials, so you can see what the barrier is made of before you buy.

What bed base does it need?

Bear requires a firm, flat, sturdy platform or slats no more than 5.5 inches apart; no box spring. Bear says choose a compatible adjustable base; some third-party bases may not fit. Bear requires support for the mattress and sleepers, plus a proper bed frame. Metal frames need a supportive base on top, with slats at least 2 inches wide. Bear permits floor use as an exception, with airflow and level support. Bear recommends a foundation or bed frame instead. Slats wider than 5.5 inches void the warranty; Bear's warranty excludes sag or indentations from an improper or unsupportive adjustable base.

How long will it last, and does it need flipping or rotating?

Published estimates range from Sleep Foundation reviewers' around seven to eight years to Mattress Clarity's 10 years or possibly longer without sagging. GoodBed rates its durability Very Good (8), while Sleepline says proper care and maintenance can help it last a very long time.

Bear asks you to sleep on it for at least 30 nights so the materials can relax and your body can adjust.

Bear says do not flip it. Bear recommends periodically rotating it head to foot to help encourage more even wear.

What does the warranty cover, and what voids it?

Bear says mattresses purchased starting 02/01/2025 have a limited lifetime warranty covering a visible indentation greater than 1.5 inches. Removing the cover voids it; a base with slats more than 5.5 inches apart also voids it. Stains and liquid damage are not covered, and proof of purchase is required.

Bear ships a replacement at no cost in years 1 to 10. After year 10, you pay the prorated replacement charge: 50 percent in years 11 to 15, 60 percent in years 16 to 20, and 75 percent of the then current retail price in year 21 and later.

These reports can help you weigh those traits, but cannot promise the same feel for you.

On RedditRecs, one owner says the mattress still feels like new after years of use. Another RedditRecs owner says its firmness relieved back pain while staying comfortable. Treat these as personal reports, not a promise of lasting comfort or pain relief.

How does the Bear Natural compare?

Bear Natural's closest alternatives are Bear's own sibling models, plus Zenhaven and Nectar Classic from other brands.

Bear recommends Original for value and an all-foam bed. Pick Original Hybrid for hybrid comfort and support at a lower price. Bear points to Pro Foam for extra pressure relief around achy muscles or joints. Pro Hybrid fits people who toss and turn at night. Elite Hybrid offers balanced pressure relief, cooling options, and zoned support. Bear says hot sleepers should choose Elite Ultra, its most advanced cooling model.

Choose Zenhaven from Saatva for a latex bed that flips between two firmness options. Pick Nectar Classic Memory Foam Mattress for foam that hugs the body at a lower price. Sleep Foundation scored each 8.7/10, versus 7.5/10 for Bear Natural.
