Why this matters to you: A brand can suit many people and still be wrong for you, so this shows who it fits and who should look elsewhere.
An outside review describes Bear Original as firm. NapLab scored its cooling 6.0 out of 10 and its motion transfer 6.7 out of 10. Both scores were below its testing averages.
Outside review scores
Review sites with a score: 5 outlets. Their scores: 3.9 to 4.5 out of 5 for 3 overall scores. Model they tested: Bear Original and Elite Hybrid. Each site tests in its own way, so read each row on its own.
No, Elite Hybrid isn't worth its higher price for most buyers seeking a coil-focused bed. Saatva Classic gives you a coil-focused build at a lower Queen price than Elite Hybrid. Bear Original remains a lower-priced all-foam option at $998 for a Queen.

Why we don't average the scores
Check the model and feel behind each result. A finding for Bear Original doesn't tell you how Elite Hybrid performs.
Chapter 02
Comfort and firmness: which mattress fits you
Why this matters to you: A mattress that suits someone else can still be wrong for your body and sleep position.
Start with your sleep position and weight, then compare the feel you prefer. Bear's guidance uses these specific weight ranges.
For side sleepers under 130 lbs, Bear recommends Pro Foam, Elite Hybrid Soft, Elite Ultra Hybrid Soft, and Bear Natural. For 130 to 230 lbs, it recommends Pro Foam, Pro Hybrid, Elite Hybrid Medium, and Bear Natural. For 230 to 300 lbs, it recommends Elite Hybrid Medium, Elite Ultra Hybrid Medium, and Bear Natural.
For back sleepers under 130 lbs, Bear recommends Pro Foam, Pro Hybrid, Elite Hybrid Medium, and Bear Natural. For 130 to 230 lbs, it recommends Elite Hybrid Medium, Elite Hybrid Firm, and Bear Natural. For 230 to 300 lbs, it recommends Elite Hybrid Firm, Elite Ultra Hybrid Firm, and Bear Natural.
For stomach sleepers under 130 lbs, Bear recommends Bear Natural, Bear Original, Pro Foam, Original Hybrid, and Elite Hybrid Firm. For 130 to 230 lbs, it recommends Elite Ultra Hybrid Firm, Elite Hybrid Firm, and Bear Natural. For 230 to 300 lbs, it recommends Bear Natural and Elite Ultra Hybrid Firm.
Neck: lie on your side with your usual pillow. Is your head level with your spine?
Shoulders: on your side, notice whether your bottom shoulder feels pressed.
Lower back: on your back, notice whether your lower back feels supported.
Hips: notice whether your hips feel comfortable and whether you can turn easily.
Figure 2.1: Four comfort checks when you lie on a mattress: neck, shoulders, lower back and hips.
Chapter 03
Compare the mattresses
Why this matters to you: Picking the right model matters more than picking the brand.
Bear's 6 core mattresses include all-foam beds and hybrids with coils. Compare their feels and Queen prices before you choose.
Elite Hybrid and Elite Ultra Hybrid each offer Soft, Medium, and Firm. The other core beds have a Medium-firm rating.
The listed Queen prices for Elite Hybrid, Pro Hybrid, and Original Hybrid exclude the Cooling Upgrade. With it, those Queens cost $2,570, $2,141, and $1,470, respectively.
Bear Natural is a specialty mattress. Bear Trek is an RV mattress. Its RV Queen costs $699 and was sold out when checked.
Why this matters to you: Prices change often, so compare what you get at each size, not just the sticker.
Before any promo code, Queen prices range from $998 for Bear Original to $3,041 for Elite Ultra Hybrid.
Choose your size before comparing the total. Elite Hybrid prices shown are before any promo code. Elite Hybrid comes in sizes from Twin through Split King. Split King requires 2 mattresses, and the price shown is for each mattress.
For a Queen, the all-foam Bear Original costs $998. Elite Hybrid, a foam and coil mattress, costs $2,284 without the Cooling Upgrade.
Bear prices were checked October 29 and 30, 2026. Recheck prices before buying.
Elite Hybrid Medium prices by size without Cooling Upgrade
Why this matters to you: What's inside decides how long the feel lasts and how warm it sleeps.
Wear can vary. Individual Bear Original owners report different results after several years, so keep your purchase proof and check your base. For eligible mattresses purchased starting February 1, 2025, the warranty covers a visible indentation greater than 1.5 inches. It must not be caused by an improper or unsupportive base, and other warranty terms apply.
Elite Hybrid combines foam with zoned coils, while Bear Original uses an all-foam build. A 4-year-old Elite Hybrid showed some top-foam softening. Treat that as one bed's experience, not a forecast for yours.
Who owns Bear Mattress: Brooklyn Bedding and Helix Sleep acquired Bear Mattress in 2022. Brooklyn-Helix introduced 3Z Brands as its portfolio's corporate identity in January 2023.
Where sources disagree
Bear Original owners reported different wear: one saw no sag after over 6 years, while another reported center sinking after about 5 to 6 years.
Chapter 06
Sleep trials, returns, exchanges and fees
Why this matters to you: These terms decide what it costs you if the mattress doesn't work out.
Bear offers a 365-night trial for eligible purchases, with free return shipping and removal in the United States, excluding territories.
Keep the mattress at least 30 nights.
The trial starts at delivery.
Some sale categories cannot be returned.
For purchases on or after October 7, 2026, request an eligible return within 365 nights of delivery. Returns apply to the first order only, with 1 return per customer, household, and/or delivery address. An authorized party removes it. Bear refunds the mattress cost to your original payment method. Bear describes deductions differently: one policy subtracts discounts, while another also subtracts gift codes and shipping fees.
Time to decide365 nights
Cost to returnFree return shipping and removal for eligible US returns, excluding territories
Not coveredCloseout, Final Sale, Clearance, Factory Clearance, and Older dated model mattresses. A warranty-defect exception applies to items marked Final Sale, Clearance, or Factory Clearance.
Bear arranges pickup. Pickup and removal must happen no later than 45 days after the trial period. If you don't schedule pickup within that window, you lose return eligibility.
Bear's return policy allows an exchange within 365 nights of delivery. It limits you to 1 return or exchange per customer, household, and/or delivery address. Its sale terms reserve exchange approval for individual cases. An exchanged mattress has no return, refund, or new trial. Closeout, Final Sale, Clearance, Factory Clearance, and Older dated model mattresses generally aren't eligible for exchange. An exception applies to products marked Final Sale, Clearance, or Factory Clearance for a defect defined by the applicable warranty.
Chapter 07
Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal
Why this matters to you: Plan for the time before shipment and for moving a boxed mattress. Standard FedEx delivery doesn't include in-home setup or old-mattress removal. White Glove Delivery for in-home setup may appear at checkout based on location and carrier availability. For an order with a mattress, it costs $194 plus $25 per mattress. After delivery, partners may offer setup and/or removal for a typical $159 to $239, depending on the services selected.
Most mattress orders have an estimated shipping time of 5 to 8 business days after purchase. Arrival can take longer.
Bear mattresses arrive boxed. Shipping is free in the contiguous states, while Alaska and Hawaii may have extra charges.
Typical wait5 to 8 business days to ship
Choose free FedEx Ground or free signature-required shipping.

Chapter 08
What do the warranties cover?
Why this matters to you: The wrong base or a small sag can block a claim, so check the rules before you set it up.
Bear's limited lifetime warranty applies to qualifying mattresses bought starting February 1, 2025, while the original purchaser owns them.
Covered indentations must be greater than 1.5 inches and not caused by an improper or unsupportive base.
Replacement charges change after 10 years.
For a claim, provide photos of the defect and proof of the original purchase date. Bear decides whether the claim is valid.
Warranty lengthLimited lifetime for qualifying purchases from February 1, 2025
Coverage over timeYears 1 to 10: Bear ships a replacement for a valid claim, with no age-based replacement charge. Replacement charges are 50% in years 11 to 15, 60% in years 16 to 20, and 75% from year 21 onward. Charges use the then-current retail price of the same model and size.
Dip depth ruleGreater than 1.5 in
What voids it or is not coveredRemoving the cover voids a claim. Slats over 5.5 in apart void the warranty for mattresses other than Bear Cub. Damage from burns, cuts, tears, liquid, or stains is not covered when it causes the defect.

Customer reviews and complaints
Why this matters to you: Owner ratings show patterns, but a high score can't promise your own fit.
Trustpilot rates Bear 4.5 out of 5 from 151 reviews, while ConsumerAffairs shows 4.5 stars from 68 reviews. Bear's own site reports over 20,000 reviews, and BBB shows 227 customer reviews for its Brooklyn Bedding profile, which has an A+ letter grade.

What are the mattresses made of?
Why this matters to you: Layers affect which build you choose. Certification scope and fire-barrier claims help you decide what matters to you without assuming every seal covers the whole mattress.
Compare foam and coils, cooling features, fiberglass claims, and certification scope before choosing a mattress.
Elite Hybrid pairs copper-infused memory foam with zoned coils. Pro Foam uses memory foam and a foam foundation instead. Bear offers a CoolForce™ Layer upgrade for Elite Hybrid and includes it in Elite Ultra Hybrid. Bear's cooling descriptions are its claims, not a promise of how cool you'll sleep.

Safety labels, and what each one covers
Why these labels matter to you: Labels can help you weigh materials and emissions when choosing a Bear mattress. A label for one material doesn't certify the whole bed. The labels run from most to least important. Gray means we did not find the label for Bear, not that Bear lacks it.
GREENGUARD Gold
Bear says Elite Hybrid, Elite Ultra Hybrid, Pro Foam, Pro Hybrid, Bear Original, Original Hybrid, Bear Natural, and Bear Cub are certified.
UL Solutions tests chemical emissions into indoor air. Gold has lower limits, including for formaldehyde. The label doesn't mean a product is organic or every ingredient is harmless. It ranks first because it tests emissions from the finished product.
MADE SAFE
We did not find this label for Bear.
MADE SAFE screens products against over 15,000 banned or restricted substances. It doesn't by itself establish organic content or a set emissions limit. It ranks second because it screens the whole product but doesn't measure emissions from the finished bed.
EWG VERIFIED
We did not find this label for Bear.
The Environmental Working Group certifies eligible mattresses that avoid its ingredients of concern. It also requires full ingredient disclosure and compliance with its safety standards. It ranks third because it covers the whole mattress using the group's own list of ingredients of concern.
eco-INSTITUT-Label
Bear Natural's badge number matches a certificate for Talalay Global's Natural Talalay Latex Foam. It covers the foam, not the whole mattress.
The label includes emissions tests and checks for selected substances, such as heavy metals and pesticides. It can cover a mattress or a material such as foam. It ranks fourth because coverage depends on the certificate and may apply to one material.
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
We did not find this label for Bear.
This label tests textiles and materials for harmful substances. Limits are stricter for items with more skin contact. It covers the item on the certificate, not organic content. It ranks fifth because it checks materials near your skin, not the whole bed.
CertiPUR-US
Bear says Elite Hybrid, Elite Ultra Hybrid, Pro Foam, Pro Hybrid, Bear Original, Original Hybrid, Bear Natural, and Bear Cub use certified foams.
Independent labs test flexible polyurethane foam samples for content and emissions. The label doesn't cover a whole mattress, latex, fabric, or coils. It ranks sixth because it applies to one kind of foam, not the whole mattress.
GOTS
Bear says Bear Natural uses GOTS certified organic cotton. The claim covers the cotton, not the whole mattress.
The Global Organic Textile Standard requires at least 70% certified organic fibers and limits chemical inputs during processing. A cotton claim doesn't cover other mattress materials or establish low emissions. It ranks seventh because it focuses on how a textile is grown and processed.
GOLS
We did not find this label for Bear.
The Global Organic Latex Standard covers latex and other farm-grown ingredients from certified organic plantations. It includes limits on harmful substances and emissions testing requirements. It ranks eighth because it applies to latex and focuses mainly on organic sourcing.
Cradle to Cradle Certified
We did not find this label for Bear.
This label assesses material health, product circularity, clean air and climate, water and soil, and social fairness. A certificate for one part doesn't cover the whole mattress. It ranks last because much of its scope concerns the planet and how a product is made.
What these labels do and don't prove
A marketing seal isn't the same as published lab testing. A certification for one material doesn't establish certification for the whole mattress.
Our safety page explains law tags, foam and fabric labels, and what each one means.
Chapter 11
Where can you try and buy the mattresses?
Why this matters to you: Trying a mattress can help you choose a feel before buying. Availability varies by showroom, so call ahead for your model.
